Blood Sugar Balancing Herbs

Insulin Production

Studies indicate that Gymnema (Gymnema sylvestre) boosts insulin production, and may actually increase the number of islet cells in the pancreas.

Controlling Blood Sugar and Cholesterol

Nopal opuntia, or Prickly Pear, is a cactus high in flavonoids, vitamin C, fiber and amino acids. It has been shown to help manage blood sugar and cholesterol while curbing the appetite.

Liver Support and blood sugar balance

The root of Dandelion (Taraxacum officinalis) aids the liver in its metabolic functions. It is also rich in the compound inulin, which has been shown to balance blood sugar. Similarly, Milk Thistle, (Silybum marianum) supports the liver, and thereby, glucose storage and metabolism. Recent research indicates that the liver's secretion of the compounds HISS (Hepatic Insulin Sensitizing Substrate) and nitric oxide are powerful aids in the stabilization of blood glucose and the mitigation of secondary complications. People with both blood sugar imbalances and liver dysfunction were able to significantly improve blood sugar control using Milk Thistle.
